Oh Fall, I Do Love You

First thing this morning when I got home from work, I took the dogs for a hike through the woods. Ryndham, our Irish Wolfhound, was overjoyed. She bounded over fallen trees and jumped in the huge pools in the creek. Greene, our mutt, was also very happy, but much more subdued about it. Maybe it's all the extra weight he's lugging around. It was so much fun to watch Ryndham run away and then run back again with her tongue hanging out. You could tell that she wanted to go farther, to smell more smells and chase more small, innocent creatures. I tried to take a video of her doing this, but my phone refused to cooperate. Greene was also in an adventurous mood, sniffing holes in the ground and chasing after his much larger sister. If it's nice tomorrow we'll go again.

So Much Wedding!!!

Last week was CRAZY!! I took Wednesday night off from work because we left the house at 9am Thursday morning to head out for my cousin Kaitlin's wedding in New Hampshire. Before we left though, I had to scrap my Survivor LO, post said LO, and pack. All on very little sleep. I managed though, don't worry.

It was a big group of us going: my parents, my two sisters, my two nieces, my grandma TuTu, and the hubs and me. We spent the weekend in a Residence Inn. My cousin Matt used to work for them, so he got us an excellent deal on a 2 room suite. It was pretty nice, and packed, full of family.

The wedding was insanely fun. My cousin was GORGEOUS. She really deserved to have an incredible day. She's had it pretty rough the last few years, but she just seems to get tougher and tougher. We were all so happy for her and proud to be a part of the festivities. Things got pretty rowdy at the reception, and I was definitely a part of that. My sister took some awesome pictures that I'll post tomorrow.

On Saturday our family went to the Museum of Science in Boston. They had a lot of really interesting exhibits. Unfortunately I had a tough time understanding even the simplest ones because, wait for it, I caught a COLD. My kids at work got me sick just in time to leave for this trip and by Saturday I had had it. Wandering around a museum full of people is tough when your head feels like it's stuffed with sandpaper (not cotton because that's too soft and squishy) and your nose is running nonstop.

Now I'm home and things are going back to normal. Time to start planning for HollaBirthaWeen and all the craziness that goes with it.

Survivor Week 2

This week has been crazy busy. We leave today for 4 days in Massachusetts & New Hampshire, so I've been packing, organizing, and scrapping like a fiend.

One of the things I HAD to get done was my Week 2 Survivor layout for Tallyscrapper.com. Here's the exact wording on my post:

Okay, this challenge was WAY too fun. My Dad posted this pic (my old pic) of my grandfather playing "Circus Baby" with my Dad as a baby on Facebook a couple weeks ago. As soon as I saw it I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. In it, my Dad has a mohawk. You can barely see it in the picture, but it's there. My brother OFTEN has a mohawk (my new pic). I'm not crazy about my journaling because I got distracted & forgot what I wanted to write, but overall, I like the way it turned out!

The journaling says "From the picture of Grandpa holding Dad, it looks like Benjy comes by his mohawk obsession naturally. Dad comes by his love of "Circus Baby" naturally as well. The 3 Ernests are alike!"

Old Pic--My grandpa & Dad
New Pic--My little brother
Found Item--Zebra heart pendant and skull suspender thingamabob
Item Similar to Found Item--Chipboard zebra heart that I MADE
Old Technique--Round corners on the pictures
New Technique--paint & spritz on the chipboard tags
Black/White or Turquoise/Orange--I wanted to do turquoise SO bad, but it would have clashed with my brother's red 'hawk so black/white it is

I think I pretty much rocked it, AND I did it on 4 hours of sleep. Go ME!!

Survivor Week One --Team Mother Hens

Our first Survivor challenge was to use a Will Ferrell quote as a title, use red & yellow as our main colors, use a doily and a banner. It was tough at first, but I figured it out.

My family uses a lot of Will Ferrell quotes in daily conversation, but I wanted to find the perfect quote for this challenge. So I googled. This is what I found. It fit these pictures to a T. It's my sister and me playing the game Chubby Bunny. You shove marshmallows in your mouth and say Chubby Bunny. You have to see how many you can get into your mouth & still say it without swallowing. It's really disgusting and apparently dangerous. I wish I had pictures of the rest of the fam playing, but these were all I could find.

Yellow & Red--Check
Will Ferrell quote--Check (it's from Blades of Glory)
Banners--Check
Doily--Check

This was so fun. It's the first time I've scrapped in MONTHS!! "I'm back. You know it!"--another Ferrell quote for ya.

3 Hours?? What, What??

Things must be turning a corner for me. I went to bed at around 5ish and woke up 5 hours later, still tired, but determined to craft. It was important to me to finish my Survivor challenge layout for Tallyscrapper. Now, here I am THREE hours later!! Where did the time go?? I finished my layout, but I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it. It's alright, but it's definitely not my best work. Scrapping has not been a priority since well before Mother's Day, and this is my first layout back. Hopefully my mojo comes back quickly. It should, Tally is really good for that. Tomorrow I'll take some pics and post them here. After I post them to Tally, of course. Now I will use what energy I have left to start cutting things out for another project I'm working on. Yeah crafties!!!

Tuesdays With Shawna

Bah. I came home today from work with a world class headache. Two days in a row now I've been saddled with fatigue and crushing pain in my grey matter. Not sure what's going on, but I crash as soon as I get home. Sleep lasts for about 3 hours, then I get up with the hubs to make some food. As soon as he leaves for work, I head back to bed until it's time for me to get up. It's worked out as far as sleeping goes, but I haven't gotten a darn thing done. I have, however, been much nicer, so I guess it equals out.

Today, just before I went back to bed, I found the best Tuesday afternoon outfit ever: t-shirt, pair of the hubs' boxers, knee high boots, and my bathrobe. I felt like a video game gunslinger and I actually looked kind of, almost, cool. The hubs said so, that's how I know it's not just me being silly.

Tomorrow I HAVE to get something done at home. Namely, I must start on my week one challenge for Survivor on Tallyscrapper. This time around I'm on the Mother Hen team, aka Mother Cluckers, and I'm really excited to get started. Our challenge is to use red & yellow, use doilies and a banner, and our title has to be a Will Ferrell quote. Awesome! Now, I must go find the perfect quote.

Geeking Out Right Now

Early this morning, around 2am, I read an e-mail from Stephen King's website about the Dark Tower movies. It turns out, they are making 3 movies with a television series to run in between the movie releases. This is my all-time favorite series by my all-time, number #1 favorite author, so you could say I'm a wee bit excited. Ron Howard is going to be directing at least the first movie and the first season of the show, and the show will utilize the props and sets from the movies to allow for continuity.

Does it make me nervous that they might butcher it? Sure, a little, but I'm usually able to keep books and their movie versions separate in my head. There have been a lot of movie adaptations in the last few years of books I've read, and none of them has ruined the book for me thus far. Most of Stephen King's books that have turned into movies were not the greatest. The team that did the miniseries of the The Stand did a HORRIBLE job. It was absolutely terrible. That's something I never need to see again, but I still love the book.

Now the casting search begins. I'm seriously voting for Viggo Mortensen as Roland. A young Clint Eastwood would be even more perfect, but since no one has invented a time machine yet, I believe Viggo would do just as well. I'm not sure about the other members of the ka-tet, but believe me, this will be a topic much discussed here at the Dandoislion Homestead.

Cloudy Days, I Do Loathe Thee

Typically. Not today though!! I came home, spent some time on the computer, worked out for 40 minutes and now I'm going to go scrub the bathtub so I can soak. Ahhhh, blessed watery bliss. First though, the scrubbings. It's going to be very, very worth it. I can already tell.

Too Funny!!

Beautiful, Gorgeous, Totally Awesome Day

Last week was a rough week for me. From Sunday through Thursday, I was stressed. Worried for my job and even more so for a friend's job. Thursday night I worked some overtime. Then, the weekend. It was nice, but I found out on Friday that I had to work on Sunday night in a place I've never worked before. There was a time when that would have sent me into fits of hysteria. This time I was calm-ish, but still nervous as hell. I spent Sunday night in a very anxious state, but when Monday morning came? WAHOO!! It was like a weight had been lifted. Last night I didn't have to work, so I got to do whatever I wanted all day. That meant a nap when I got home from work yesterday, dinner with the hubs, and then crafting for a couple hours before I went back to bed. Then when the hubs got home from work, I got back up for a few hours to hang out. Now it's Tuesday. Tonight I have to work, tomorrow too, but that doesn't seem to matter!

My goals for today include: Work Out (I have to start doing that again, I've really been slacking lately), laundry--do some, vacuum, maybe clean some random stuff, craft, and then take a nice sleepy nap before work tonight. I'm hoping that writing all these things down in a public forum will help me to feel accountable.

As a matter of fact, I think I'll go do a workout right now.

My New Creation

I love the way this one turned out too! The base is more cardboard packing material. The clouds were made from printed paper bags & cardstock that I crumpled then soaked in modgepodge, water & paint. I cut the wings out using SCAL on my Cricut, and then I used watercolors to do the colors on the wings. The picture is of my younger sister Jessi getting ready for my wedding. She passed away in February of 2007, so I guess this is just kind of how I picture her now.

"Radiohead Helps Fans Bootleg Show"

One of the many reasons I love Radiohead. We saw them at Red Rocks in Colorado August 26, 2003. Just 3 days after our wedding. It was my wedding present to the hubs. 16th Row, in the Center-ish. It was amazing. Now, 6 years later they allowed fans to videotape a show ON our anniversary and provided the soundboard masters. Then, they put it up for free download on the internet. They <3 us.

Good News!

All is well. Now it's time for me settle down for some crafting before I head off to sleep. There's a widget on the right for my favorite place to hang out on the web http://www.tallyscrapper.com. It's a fantastic site that's chock full of awesome women and gobs of inspiration.

I just found out, after a walk with my dogs through the field, that our path is almost .4 miles long. Good to know!! Thank you fancy smartphone! Speaking of my phone, I'm addicted. Shamelessly. I have no clue how we survived for so long with those old phones that could only make calls and text. My phone gets used for everything now.

On Pins & Needles

Waiting to hear potential bad news makes me physically ill. It's weird because I'll forget for a while that the dark cloud is looming, and start to relax into whatever I'm doing. Then all of a sudden something reminds me. My stomach turns to knots and I feel like I'm going to vomit. It makes me even more concerned for the parties involved. If I'm this stressed over it, I can only imagine how they are feeling.
